NEW YORK POST ARTICLE on Child Models

The photo to the left is a screen shot of an article featured in the New York Post this week about child models.

Interesting read. Not sure it depicts the reality of the majority of children in the industry, but interesting just the same.

Happy Halloween!!

Happy Halloween!!

Just wanted to share some pics of Sofia just being a kid :-)

She desperately wanted to be Sandy from Grease this year (the Sandy at the end of the movie, not the good girl Sandy lol) After looking all over the internet trying to find a T-Birds jacket that wasn’t sold out, I finally was able to locate this gorgeous custom T-BIRDS jacket on Etsy, made by EraCostumes

Kylee Tucholski – Petite Parade

Kylee Tucholski – Petite Parade
My moment! :-)

My moment! :-)

Hi Everyone! Happy Monday! What better way to start the week than a fabulous piece, written by the gorgeous Kylee Tucholski. In it, Kylee shares her experience of walking the runway for the first time in the petitePARADE show last weekend.

I had never seen Kylee before the show, but I was so fascinated and captivated by her fierce presence on the runway that I just had to reach out to her mom and tell her how amazing I thought her daughter was.

After speaking to mom, I was shocked to learn several things:
1. Kylee is not currently signed with an agency.
2. It was the first time Kylee ever walked the runway.
3. She is only 11 years old.

I was floored! Not only is Kylee a stunner, but she’s my favorite kind. The antithesis of what one would call conventional, and yet she stole the show! A beautiful, fierce rebel, who at 11 (I still can’t wrap my head around that one!) exhibits a confidence that is both mesmerizing and contagious.

At 11 years old, she already possesses what it took me 40 years to even touch the surface of… an unapologetic confidence in her own skin. A knowing of her own beauty and worth. That came across so strongly while I watched her on that runway, that it was infectous. Just watching her do her thing made me proud to be me!

I am so happy to be able to share with you a piece that Kylee was sweet enough to write about what led up to that fierce moment on the runway. I hope that by reading her story and seeing her runway photos, you too will experience all that I did!

Enjoy my beautiful friends!

Hi, I’m Kylee, and I’m 11 years old. A week ago I walked in PetitePARADE for Kids Fashion Week. I walked for Parsons, specifically for Erica Kim, a designer that recently graduated. This is where it all started…

My mom checked out this blog about a year ago, and got my baby brother and sister started in modeling, and shortly after, they were signed. Because I’m active with school, sports, and extra curricular activities, it’s hard for me to take modeling on full time, but I always wanted to do it, especially after going to auditions and shoots with my brother and sister.

My mom was referred by a friend to submit my pictures to Erica Kim for consideration. I had recently had my pictures done by a few photographers including Nathan Blaney, Alex Kruk and MKG photography, so my mom submitted. I was absolutely speechless when Erica responded, and wanted me to be one of her six models!! At that point, I was jumping off the walls, and couldn’t wait for the PetitePARADE. I didnt even realize how big this was, but I was just so excited that I was chosen, despite the fact that I have never done this before.

The day of the parade, my mom and I went to Parsons to meet up with my designer, and got fitted for my outfit, and got my hair done. After a little hanging out, it was time to go to the runway. When we got to the runway all 6 of Erica’s models got makeup done, and rehearsed on the runway. At first I was nervous, but then I realized it was my time, and I should just have fun!!! We waited until it was our time to actually walk the runway. We lined up, and it was showtime. When people were disappearing on the runway, with cameras flashing I was becoming more and more excited.

Finally, it was my time. I walked slowly and fiercely down the runway strutting my stuff, and doing my own thing. This experience was amazing, I felt great, and beautiful. I love modeling, and all the media. I got to meet new friends, and new people. I mean it was my first time on the runway, and it made me feel special when I saw myself on media, and to hear people saying how gorgeous and beautiful I am.

Overall it was an amazing experience and I definitely would do it again. I love modeling, and it’s definitely something Id like to pursue even more now that I have had this experience; it makes me feel special, and beautiful for being me.

Goodbye summer!

Goodbye summer!

Sofia at GAP CorporateHi All!

We hope you enjoyed your summer. Sofia just finished up her first full week of school, and we are finally settling in.

Sofia was very busy this summer working as a “fit model”. For those of you who are not familiar with fit modeling, Wikipedia defines a Fit Model as:
“a person who is used by a fashion designer or clothing manufacturer to check the fit, drape and visual appearance of a design on a ‘real’ human being, effectively acting as a live mannequin.”

Sofia has been working steadily for GAP, and has done several sessions for Autumn Cashmere, and most recently, LEI (Jones Jeans).

She really enjoys it. I definitely wouldn’t call it easy work. Your child must be calm, able to take instruction, okay with changing quickly into and out of wardrobe, and at times must have the stamina and focus to go as many as 4 hours (with a break of course!)

Most recently, while at GAP, one of the designers made it a point to come over to me and comment on how obvious it was that Sofia genuinely enjoyed what she was doing. And she really does! It is like one big dress up session for her. She is also old enough to understand now that she is getting paid, and that her bank account is growing. Saving has become her newest obsession! :-)

Sofia is currently a perfect Size 8 Girls, and from what I understand, fit models can work quite steadily all through size 10 as well.

I guess that means that as long as she keeps enjoying herself, and keeping up her academics, we will be quite busy!

Sending booking vibes to all of your beautiful and fabulous children! Remember to always keep it fun. That’s what it’s all about. Sofia has taught me so much by watching her. She thoroughly enjoys the business, and it is obvious in the level of professionalism that she displays at all times. If they don’t enjoy it, they shouldn’t be doing it. Bottom line.

Be well and book those jobs! :-) xo

Longest Week Ever lol Not complaining though! :-)

Happy Thursday Everyone! I keep promising myself that I will be more diligent about updating this blog, so here I am :-) This week has been a crazy one so far. In this business, it can often feel like “feast or famine”. This week is proving to be a feast, and it’s not over yet.

Monday we were “booked out”. (This is VERY important to do if you or your child will not be available. It is crucial that you tell your manager or agent in advance so that they will not submit your child for jobs on the dates that you are unavailable. Firstly, if a casting director asks for a certain amount of kids, let’s say 10 for example, and your child is submitted for a job that shoots on a day when you are on vacation, because the agent did not know you were booked out, then a spot was taken from another child from your agency or manager, who may have had a shot at booking that job. That can also translate into a loss of money for your agency or manager. So please, remember to simply email your agent or manager with “BOOKING OUT” in the subject line, and let them know in advance when you need to be booked out.)

Now, back to this week (I happen to be deliriously tired right now, so forgive me if this entry is all over the place). Tuesday Sofia worked a fit modeling job for GAP for the better part of the afternoon.

Yesterday we were back in Manhattan for a go-see for a big name sports brand, and today, we have one audition set up for the morning, and one for the afternoon. Both are pretty exciting, so please send all your positive vibes this way!

As for tomorrow…who knows what tomorrow will bring, but if it is anything like the past few days, it is sure to be exciting! I’ll keep you all posted :-)

Summer Update

Summer Update

Hi Everyone!
We hope you are having a fabulous summer. Sofia and I have been quite busy this summer, traveling into Manhattan several times a week on auditions, go-sees, and regular “fit” modeling work. Sofia has been working as a “fit” model for GAP, and she absolutely loves it!

We had a few close calls this summer, which were pretty exciting. One was a callback for a European TV show that is filming in Belgium. Sofia went in against some very seasoned and lovely young ladies, and was called back. Haven’t seen anyone book it yet, but just getting called back was amazing!

She was also on hold for another campaign, which fell through, and went to a friend in the business.

While it may sometimes be frustrating to get put on hold, or called back, and then not book a job, it is important to remain hopeful. It is also a reassurance that she is in the right place. She loves what she does, and she is definitely catching the eye of the casting director.

As always, I am an optimist, and believe that what is meant to be, is meant to be. In the meantime, we are having a blast!

We hope you are all enjoying this gorgeous summer.
